[TW: Ableism in video above]
I’ve been watching this show “What Would You Do?” all evening and it’s an amazing. Some of the language is a little dated in certain episodes but their hearts are in the right place with social justice-esque experiments. This particular episode had actors portraying a bag boy with down syndrome and abusive customers using ableist language. It’s interesting to me that in a lot of these episodes women tend to be the ones confronting the abusers and comforting the victims while the men tend to be more standoffish or less involved.
Just as a note, if you’re going to watch this series, there aren’t any really good warnings for the content addressed in the episodes. I was caught a little off guard by an episode about rape and I had to turn it off for a minute. Maybe if I get time I can compile a watch list with trigger warnings because I feel like this is a must watch. It also addresses some of the good ways to step into volatile social justice situations (putting your body between people, calling the police, addressing managers in job situations, etc.).
I watched a bunch of episodes last year! It really is a good show.
i would totally stand up for anybody if they get treated like that!
There’s no way I cannot reblog this.
